Welcome! A Massage Therapy Survey

Welcome to Tara Tait’s new blog. Here I’ll keep you updated on what’s happening the registered massage therapy world, the yoga world, and my world.  We’ll kick off with information on a recent survey:

A survey of nearly 2000 BC massage therapy patients showed that:

  • 77% believed that massage therapy was highly effective
  • 95% thought the treatments improved their conditions
  • 49% said massage therapy let them stop or reduce drug or medical treatment

The most current research suggests that there is a direct link between our physical well-being and our mental or emotional state, which can be positively affected by massage therapy. Research also supports the use of massage therapy as an effective approach in injury management and rehabilitation, as well as part of a preventative care program.

Research shows that with Massage Therapy:

  • Arthritis sufferers note fewer aches and less stiffness and pain.
  • Burn injury patients report decreased pain, itching and anxiety.
  • High blood pressure patients demonstrate lower diastolic blood pressure, anxiety and stress hormones.
  • Assists with shorter, easier labour for expectant mothers and shorter hospital stays.
  • Release endorphins, which are amino acids that work as the body’s painkiller.
  • Premenstrual syndrome sufferers have decreased water retention and cramping
